So I spent today researching plugin options for allowing members to upload their photo to the website and show up in a photo gallery. Obviously the ideal would be for this service to happen automatically and all I have to do is monitor it.
This is what I found:
They do really interactive galleries and I have emailed them to see if they offer a service were public users can upload their photos
This one seems to do everything I need but it seems it will no longer be updated as the author has left the WordPress community which may be a problem.
There may be a way to integrate this plugin with a plugin that will allow users to upload their photo and show up in a gallery so that I can add one of the artists/photographers work to the photo.
Again, this is a photo editor that may be useful in adding the art to the images uploaded by users. So far I haven’t found away for users to be able to do this themselves when they are uploading the image.
nextGEN Gallery seems to be a bit of a winner. It’s really well supported and they have another plugin that allows users to upload their photo as well that works with this gallery. It seems very popular as well and has gotten good reviews. The only issue is that the uploader doesn’t give other fields such as email address on their upload form. I don’t know how easy it will be to change that.
The ability to create a gallery template might be a way around trying to get the art displayed with the images.
So those are the most useful options I looked at. Photosmash sounds the most ideal but I’d be worried about the fact it will no longer be updated so I might be better off going with nextGEN photo gallery.
If anyone out there has any suggestions let me know. I want users to be able to upload their photo through a form which asks for email, confirms age, etc then be taken to an image editor so were they can add the artwork they want on their picture and then for it to automatically show up in a specific photo gallery once it has been moderated by me.
